“The story is one that you and I will construct together... think of it, not as
something I created, but rather as
something that we made together.”
—ORSON SCOTT CARD, ENDER’S GAME
The process begins with a complimentary introductory visit of up to an hour via Facetime, Skype or Zoom, in which we will begin to get to know one another. I will help you assess and define your goals for your project, and answer any questions you may have.
If you decide to move forward, you can count on a weekly visit of 60 to 90 minutes, in which I will interview you on a range of subjects. Date and time will be arranged at your convenience. I find it most effective to select a standing weekly meeting time.
With your goals in mind, I will prepare documents for signature specifying the Scope of Work, the timeframe in which the work is to be completed, fees, and deliverables. No surprises!
As we get to know each other, we will develop the thematic areas the work will cover. Each of our meetings will drill down into a particular area, whether early life, early career, family life, business philosophy, etc. In this way, you can collect your thoughts in advance of discussing them with me. Some clients have chosen to outline the topics; others are more comfortable with a spontaneous, conversational exchange. Either approach works well.
After six or eight meetings, I will begin writing your book, providing you with chapters to review in between our meetings. You deliver your comments to me as part of a subsequent session.
At the end of the process, you will receive a professional manuscript, suitable for publication. I am happy to assist with selection of graphics and photos, seeking an agent and/or publisher, and working with the publisher through production, if you wish.
